Pressing Specifications
Who Is Kate NV?
Kate NV is the recording name of Kate Shilonosova, a Moscow based musician who trained as an architect before turning to music full time. Beyond her solo work, she is known for fronting the post-punk band Glintshake and for her time in the Moscow Scratch Orchestra. Her solo discography began with 2016's Binasu, followed by для = FOR in 2018 and Room For The Moon in 2020, each shifting between different sonic guises, from DIY synth-pop to abstract precision pop.
About WOW
WOW moves away from the more legible song structures of Room For The Moon, embracing wonkier rhythms and technicolour sonics built in part from the Broken Orchestra sample pack, a collection of recordings from more than a thousand worn out instruments sourced from Philadelphia public schools. The result is a playful, maximalist record blending xylophones, guiros, boiling water sounds and synths into what one reviewer called pop music for people who enjoy both Karlheinz Stockhausen and Lisa Frank. Opening track oni (they) features Japanese language lyrics written by Foodman, while closer meow chat nods to Shilonosova's post-punk roots in Glintshake with a spidery guitar line.
