Who Is Sulka?
Sulka is the recording project of Glasgow based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Lukas Clasen, active since 2017 across a series of DIY bedroom pop releases. His 2021 debut album Take Care, made during the pandemic, marked his first release via Lost Map Records and gave his profile a significant boost despite the difficulties of releasing music without being able to tour. The stripped-back Front Door EP followed, developing the hushed, confessional style that had begun to define his sound.
About Distractions
Distractions marked a clear departure for Sulka, recorded for the first time with a full live band and in collaboration with SAY Award nominated producer Chris McCrory, known for his work with Catholic Action and Walt Disco. The resulting ten track album blends new material with revisited songs from earlier releases, given fuller studio treatment, recorded across Chem 19, Green Door and Workshop studios in Glasgow. Named partly in response to the passive way music gets consumed in the streaming era, the record channels influences including Heatmiser, Sparklehorse and Withered Hand, and was selected as Album of the Month on BBC Gaelic Radio following its release.
