Who Was Lester Flatt?
Lester Flatt was one of the founding figures of bluegrass music, first coming to prominence as a member of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in the 1940s before co-founding Flatt and Scruggs with banjo player Earl Scruggs in 1948. Over the following two decades, Flatt and Scruggs and their band the Foggy Mountain Boys became one of bluegrass's most successful and influential acts. When the pair parted ways in 1969, Flatt formed a new band, the Nashville Grass, drawing largely from the ranks of the Foggy Mountain Boys, and continued recording and performing until his death in 1979.
About Flatt Gospel And The Marty Stuart Connection
Released on Canaan Records in 1975, Flatt Gospel captures Flatt and the Nashville Grass working through twelve traditional bluegrass gospel numbers, including Let The Church Roll On, What A Friend We Have In Jesus and He Didn't Stop At Calvary. Flatt Gospel arrived during a particularly productive stretch for Flatt, who released several albums in 1975 alone across different labels as he continued performing right up until serious health problems began limiting him in the years before his death.
