Who Is Oneida?
Oneida formed in Brooklyn in the late 1990s and have spent nearly three decades navigating a space between punk, psychedelic rock and the NYC experimental art world, known for extended live improvisations played at both gritty rock clubs and esteemed cultural institutions. Members have collaborated widely across other projects, including People of the North, New Pope and Nurse & Soldier, and Oneida's own catalogue has drawn comparisons to Sonic Youth, Pere Ubu, Yo La Tengo and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
About Expensive Air
Recorded across three sessions in 2023 at Colin Marston's Menegroth The Thousand Caves studio in Queens, Expensive Air continues the shorter, punchier direction of 2022's Success while introducing a heavier, darker undertow. Bobby Matador described the album as a darker, looser and louder counterpart to its predecessor, likening Success to laughing while gunning a car through an ice storm, and Expensive Air to laughing at yourself as the car spins into the ditch. The record moves from the walloping riff of opener Reason To Hide through the hardcore thrasher La Plage and grunge-pop of Here It Comes, closing with a faithful cover of Swell Maps' Gunboats.
