Pressing Specifications
Who Are The Gories?
The Gories formed in Detroit in 1986, built around guitarists and vocalists Mick Collins and Dan Kroha alongside drummer Peggy O'Neill, deliberately playing without a bassist to keep their sound as raw and primitive as possible. Only Collins had any prior musical experience when the band started, and the trio taught themselves to play together, drawing on 1960s garage rock and blues artists like Bo Diddley and Howlin' Wolf. They took their name from a fictional band that appeared on the 1960s TV show Gidget.
About Houserockin' And Its Legacy
Houserockin' followed two early tracks the band contributed to the 1987 compilation It Came From The Garage, Vol. II, and captured the group's minimal, distortion-heavy sound across twelve tracks blending covers, including John Lee Hooker's Boogie Chillun, with garage-blues originals like Feral and Sovereignty Flight. The Gories followed it with 1990's I Know You Fine, But How You Doin', produced by Alex Chilton, before disbanding in 1992. Mick Collins went on to found The Dirtbombs, and the band reunited for touring in 2009, discovering by then that their cult following had only grown. Their influence continues to be cited by garage rock and punk blues revivalists decades later.
