Who Were The Bollweevils?
This English indie band signed a recording contract with Vinyl Solution Records in late 1989, releasing their critically well received debut, the self-produced four track Talk To Me EP, on the Decoy label in March 1990. The band went through several lineup changes during their brief but productive run, at one point bringing in ABC's Stephen Singleton to help record a planned second single, though that project was ultimately shelved when neither the band nor the label were satisfied with the results.
About Mouth And The Jim Beattie Connection
By September 1991, with a newly expanded lineup that added second guitarist Mark Shaw, formerly of Circus Circus Circus, and drummer Pete Darnborough, formerly of Leeds techno-goth band MDMA, The Bollweevils recorded another EP with producer Jim Beattie, best known for his earlier work co-founding Scottish band Primal Scream, before departing that group to focus on his own subsequent projects. The resulting single, Mouth, was released in November 1991 via Decoy Records. Despite this productive period, the band's momentum stalled soon after; a final track, Missing Out, was recorded for Vinyl Solution in early 1992 but never officially released as a single, and The Bollweevils disbanded in 1993, with members Johnson and Griffiths going on to form the band Bolster.
