Pressing Specifications
Who Are Kenny Kosek And Matt Glaser?
Kenny Kosek is one of the most recorded fiddlers in America, a core member of the trailblazing New York-based newgrass groups Breakfast Special and Country Cooking since the 1970s, whose distinctive playing has appeared on recordings by James Taylor, Jerry Garcia, David Byrne, Chaka Khan, Willie Nelson and John Denver, as well as countless film soundtracks, Broadway musicals and television soap operas. Matt Glaser, based in Somerville, Massachusetts, brought a contrasting jazz and swing violin sensibility to the collaboration, having authored instructional books on jazz violin and gone on to teach notable students including Casey Driessen and Mads Tolling.
About Hasty Lonesome And Its Extraordinary Session Lineup
Co-produced by both fiddlers alongside engineer Paul Wickliffe, Hasty Lonesome brought together an extraordinary cast of progressive bluegrass talent for its eight tracks, including Andy Statman on mandolin and clarinet, banjo virtuoso Tony Trischka, guitarist Russ Barenberg, and the full lineup of newgrass band Hot Rize, featuring Tim O'Brien on mandolin and vocals, Pete Wernick on banjo, Nick Forster on bass and Charles Sawtelle on guitar. One Amazon reviewer memorably described the result as sounding like David Grisman's Dawg music and David Bromberg had a love child, capturing the record's genre-blurring energy across tracks including the title cut, Le Chamoix Cornu, K-Town Fling, Lonesome Fiddle Blues and a Marx Brothers Medley. Though it later went out of print, the album has remained a cherished, if underrated, entry in Kosek's recorded legacy for fans of progressive bluegrass and twin fiddle music.
