Pressing Specifications
Who Were Pisces?
Pisces formed in Rockford, Illinois in 1967, built around guitarist Jim Krein, engineer Paul DiVenti and a 17-year-old singer named Linda Bruner, who had originally sought Krein out for guitar lessons. The band self-released three rare 45 rpm singles on the local Vincent label before attempting a full album's worth of material in 1969. Before the record could be released, the band's studio was destroyed by fire, and Pisces disbanded soon after, with much of the story around Bruner's eventual disappearance from the music industry remaining unclear.
About A Lovely Sight
Despite the fire, DiVenti preserved the band's master tapes in a storage locker, where they sat for forty years until Chicago reissue label Numero Group, known for unearthing overlooked recordings, tracked them down. The resulting 15-track compilation moves between fuzz-guitar psychedelic pop, garage punk and haunting psych-folk, drawing comparisons to Jefferson Airplane and the Velvet Underground while retaining a distinctly homespun, Midwestern character. Bruner's vocals on tracks like Sam are frequently singled out as the record's emotional centre, lending an unsettling menace to otherwise dreamy arrangements.
