Who Was Justin Townes Earle?
Justin Townes Earle was a Nashville born singer-songwriter and the son of Americana legend Steve Earle, who named him after his friend and fellow songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Justin built his own reputation across eight studio albums released between 2007 and 2019, blending country, blues and folk with sharp, literate songwriting and a distinctive fingerpicked guitar style. His 2009 breakout album Midnight At The Movies introduced a twangy cover of the Replacements’ Can’t Hardly Wait, and his final studio album, 2019’s The Saint Of Lost Causes, was named one of the best albums of that year by Rolling Stone. Earle struggled publicly with addiction for much of his life and died in 2020 at the age of 38.
About This Collection
Released in 2024, four years after Earle’s death, All In: Unreleased & Rarities (The New West Years) draws together material from his time on New West Records. It also features live tracks recorded for SiriusXM radio, among them Champagne Corolla and So Different Blues, along with a set of covers spanning Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams, Bruce Springsteen’s Glory Days, Paul Simon’s Graceland and John Prine’s Far From Me. The compilation was assembled by New West Records as a tribute to Earle’s songwriting legacy.
